Experience the breathtaking landscape of Provence, with its endless lavender fields, bountiful vineyards, rocky hilltop villages, and dazzling Côte D’Azur waters. This popular region of France epitomizes the Mediterranean dream destination, with stunning port towns, major landmarks, and a rich countryside to explore.

Provence boasts a delightful Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, mild winters, and the infamous wind called Le Mistral, which affects the Var and Bouches-du-Rhône departments during winter and spring. Situated in southeastern France, the region stretches from the Italian border on the east to the Rhône River on the west, with Marseille as its capital. The Cote D’Azur lies to the east, hugging the Italian border, while Avignon sits on the west side of Provence.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Avignon, the historical capital of the Vaucluse region, is a must-visit destination for its medieval architecture and Roman ruins. The Palais des Papes dominates the Avignon cityscape and is now one of the most important medieval gothic sites in Europe. Equally mesmerizing is the abandoned Pont d’Avignon, dating back to the 12th century. Avignon hosts many significant art and theatre festivals annually.

Summer in Provence is a wonderful season, with the lavender fields bursting into deep blues and purples from the end of June to August. However, if you visit in March and April, the temperatures are ideal for cultural sightseeing and exploring the region, although you may not experience beach weather. And while you're in the area, don't forget to head south to the beaches on the Riviera.
